3 – Eruzione del 2003 e Bosco di Timparossa

A particolar path that develops in the Etna North-east side , that allows to appreciate the recents eruptions and the different vegetation mountain of Etna, sorrounded by suggestive landscapes on the oriental sicilian coast.
It starts from the skiing centre of Piano Provenzana, and follows the dirt road that crosses the lava of the recent eruption that in 2002-2003 destroyed the turistic area; after a Kilometer you take a narrow path that goes on the black river of lava. It goes near the eruptive mouth of 2002, and turns towards Monte Nero (eruption of 1646), visiting the eruptive mouths of 1923. In this stretch, landscapes on Etna dominate, of which you appreciate entirely the summit ridge zone, and in front the Alcantara valley, Taormina and the Strait of Messina. From the recent lava deposits the path suddenly moves in the beech wood of Timparossa, up to reach the homonym shelter. Effected a brief stop, you cross downhill a wood of pine laricio, in direction of the “Pista Altomontana” (the main path of Etna that travels around the periplus of the volcano). In this stretch of the path, the forest made of massive pines grown on ancient lava deposits, it toggles to the most recent lava flows that open up on beautiful landscapes nearby. You arrive to Ragabo Refuge, where you can enjoy some well-deserved rest.
